Peep Sight is free, runs in your phone's browser, and works today.
A grade checker spends the day with a hand level in one hand and a tape in the other. Peep Sight puts a true level line across the phone camera, marks the phone at a fixed height so the tape has somewhere to sit, and tells you cut or fill by color, so you can read it out of the corner of your eye while you hold the tape.
Peep Sight replaces a hand level, not an instrument. After its two-shot level check, expect about 0.1°, roughly 0.1 ft at 50 ft. Use it for checks and pre-construction, not for staking.
Drawn from the phone's tilt sensor and the camera's lens geometry, so it stays level across the whole view even when the phone rolls in your hand.
Big notches on both edges of the screen mark one fixed height on the phone. Set them at your tape mark and the lines move around them.
The whole screen edge glows green on grade, blue when the mark is low (fill), red when it's high (cut), and deepens past the band lines. A quick shake when it locks on.
Roll the wheel on the left edge to shoot a slope, plus or minus. The yellow target line follows it, a green line stays at true level, and a double-tap goes back to level.
Roll the bottom wheel to zoom on the crosshair for a mark a long way off. No pinching with one hand full of tape.
Two reciprocal shots between two marks at the same height measure the phone's sensor error and correct it, the same check you'd run on a hand level.
Leave the thumb wheel at 0% for a level shot, or roll in the slope you're checking.
Put the side notches at your tape mark, say 5.00 ft above the hub.
Bring the mark on the stake to the crosshair. Zoom in if it's far.
Green is on grade. Blue means fill, red means cut, with the difference shown under the crosshair.
Open field.dirtworksge.com/sight in your phone's browser and tap Start. Allow motion and camera access when asked.
Not survey equipment. Phone positions and every reading, grade, quantity and estimate are approximate: check them against project control and a licensed surveyor or engineer before you build, stake, bid or pay. See the Terms.
The native DirtWorks Field app will use the phone's depth sensor to measure the distance to whatever is under the crosshair.
Peep Sight lives alongside the DirtWorks Field app at field.dirtworksge.com, where your crews walk the plans and site data from Hive.
RTK grade checking against your Hive models, built into the DirtWorks Field app. The grade checker sees cut and fill against the finished-design surface at their boots, and the office sees every shot as it's taken.
Bring your own RTK receiver over a wireless connection. Check cut and fill against the same design surfaces the office keeps in Hive.
Voice commands to take a shot or switch screens, and cut or fill read out loud, so your hands stay on the rod and the tape.
Every shot streams to Hive the moment it's taken. No end-of-day download, no file to forget.
Model updates push to the field in real time, and the checker chooses when to switch to the new model. The office watches shots land live.
Every tool brings its work home to your company's Hive. How the platform works
